Since the Darwinian schism with the faith community there has been an increasing disconnect between people of faith and people of science along with their followers. Plainly each side had a lot to learn. Human knowledge is in the dark with little sparks of light occasionally rolling back the darkness for a moment, and for Christians at least Jesus Christ is the light in that darkness. It is wrong though to leave scriptural interpretation in the paradigm of the first century A.D. for people of today.
I have tried to explain some of the problems in a couple of books (free to download), yet theology of mainstream Christian churches has generally failed to update their material. There are good reasons for that; the amount of interdisciplinary knowledge required is huge. From quantum mechanics to Wittgenstein’s indeterminacy of translation as well as comprehending something of what the nature and understanding of an omniscient God could be in regard to mankind’s finite limits of knowledge; the degree of work required is overtaxing for many professionals of any field.
It is good though that the Catholic leader has taken a large step in moving toward a modern viewpoint of scripture and science in light of the revealed knowledge of the Bible.
