On the causality of Hellenic Philosophy and science not continuing to medieval Europe. That was largely a consequence of historical wars and loss of culture. First Rome and Byzantium, and the fall of Rome and collapse in Europe followed by rather savage Euro tribes being mostly illiterate initially. Most of the writings of Greeks were lost for a time and recovered from Arab sources. The literati tended to be priests or royal scribes. Europeans are said to have become more material with experimental science having immediate applications in war. There was a lot of energy expent in defending against Muslim and mongol invasions and counter-offensives. ,That is, the philosophical environment wasn’t similar to ancient Greece and priests read in Latin rather than Greek (with the exception of the Byzantine empire). It was also important to be Orthodox in religious choice because of the plethora of heresies and pagan beliefs. Hellenic philosophers were considered to be pagan by authorities- and that wasn’t Aristotle’s fault. Religion and political loyalty as a subject needed to be correct in the era.
