A reductionism to the material is logical enough for those studying the material. Philosophers may use those researches to at least bring meta-physics speculations as pre-Socratics did to questions of volume, space, dimensions etc. I wrote about teleological or theological points of a multiverse in ‘A Thought of Infinite Being’, and Tegmark’s level four multiverse was helpful for providing ideas in that regard.

Perhaps materialism may be considered as a substance for-itself that is a practico-inert basic common phenomenon in support of, or concurrence with idealism and other theories. Maybe reality is more complex than can be understood with a single exclusive assertion of what it is. Philosophers ought to want to investigate all theoretical approaches at least so far as to make a survey.
