Protests and The Portland Paradox

The protests in Portland, including antifa apparently, are something of a mystery to me. I lived in Portland Oregon for a time a few decades ago and attended a business college and enlisted in the Oregon National Guard. At that time, in the early nineteen eighties, there was an illegal alien problem in Oregon. Improvisational jobs for men were in shorter supply, since illegal aliens filled most of the casual employment opportunities. There was even an ice raid at a large underground mushroom growing operation.

  The Portland protests, apparently motivated by opposition to border enforcement that would limit immigration in the United States to those arriving legally and in compliance with the laws of the democracy, are somewhat inexplicable and enigmatic to me.

The left is protesting in order to keep illegal aliens working for less than legal wages and that exploits illegals. The left ewants more federal and state funding for homeless people living in Portland and elsewhere in the valley.
Yet paradoxically, there would be virtually no homeless people in Portland or the Willamette valley if the illegal aliens weren’t displacing them from job opportunities of an improvisational and laboring sort. Illegal migrant workers by the tens of thousands or greater in Orego have a definite proximal, immediate and real effect on the ability of homeless people to get off the streets by finding easy casual labor.

  The homeless can ill afford to use drugs and alcohol and hope to get a regular job. Most employers do not want workers that use drugs and alcohol regularly in their employe To improve one’s prospects in life, starting from broke and on the street one need be sober and and eschew drugs, tobacco and alcohol entirely. While the state of Oregon may for a time be able to pay homeless people a $1000 a month, that policy probably can’t be sustained in the long run, as it is presently, because any unemployed young person in the Western United States,  might reasonably travel to Portland simply to enlist in the $1000 a month homeless compensation program while looking for work.

  The left evidently are cluesless that there leaders haven’t generally, policies that are rational and arent often in opposition to the best interests of the citizens of the United States. A majority voted for Trump because tgere is no rational alternative on the left. Democrat leaders took that party as clise to sustainable treason as they could and that really wasn’t in the best interests of youth.

   Sure it would be great if there was a nationalist, environmentalist, strong individual rights and balanced budget party yet there isn’t. A dopey, godless lifestyle for the masses is not vrtuous or. sustainable.
