Even FIDE’s arena chess engines use time control mechanics in game play against humans that are implicitly unfair. The way an engine’s time runs should more closely resemble that of a human player in a three minute chess game.

I played a three minute, 42 move game against a chess engine when my time ran out. The engine had used 15 seconds to make 42 moves. That speed is why it is so unsatisfying to play against an engine. I suggest that programmers slow down the engine to something more like the speed a human player uses to make moves- at least a second or two per move, in order to make playing against engines of more value when training to play against people.
