route 66 in the desert is history moved on
a place for bicycles searching another way
to the foothills, in the Mohave, to Barstow

  Dry crumbly dirt
clods of time and memories
oil changes and cars
destined for rusty collector’s lots
suggestions for improvisation

  Going in another direction
as if time was reversible like motion
a trackless bird escaping Stroud
Red rivers and blue skies
Jim Thorpe ran endlessly with power

  I first reached a 1400 chess rating at El Reno

through towns sprinkling tomorrows and yesterdays
equally with tornadoes on verdant biota
