A taxi stopped in the road
the ground was damp in the summer
a sidewalk didn’t exist
it was yet in mind
oil was present
yet the man in the back asked for directions
of the man on the street
clouds were in the blue sky
even the traveller knew not where
the boat to Anchorage departs
thus Sartre rode off
Soil is less respected in cities
where buildings cluster
and oil is spilt into gutters
where people cluster for buses and metro lines in tubes underground
and nothing is heard of except the sound of something
approaching in the darkness
Don’t make life harder for anyone,
one of Patton’s pall bearers said
everyone has their own battle to fight
even politicians wind up dead.
